SLAG PC/Windows The SLAG sidebar runs in a thin window on your desktop, and displays the current track playing in Windows Media Player. When the mouse hovers over the SLAG sidebar, a small tool tip (or flyout) appears. When you click the album cover, another tool tip opens and displays additional information about the artist and the current track. If you mouse over the link to the artist's page on the Web, a new tool tip opens displaying a link to the artist's MySpace or Facebook page. Clicking the link to the artist's folder will open Windows Explorer with the current directory selected. The mouse wheel activates volume control for your computer's sound system. The Background: Originally developed as a sidebar gadget for Microsoft's Windows Vista, SLAG quickly became a sought after gadget by enthusiasts everywhere. SLAG was then developed by Aaron Hugman to run on Windows 7 and Windows 8. The most compelling aspect of SLAG is that it's simple, yet infinitely useful. While it does not fully replace WMP (the #1 media player in Windows for years), it does act as a nice companion to it. Its original use was for playing a library of music, but its features and capabilities have since expanded. The mouse wheel volume control has allowed anyone to easily create their own SLAG. It has been converted to a.NET windows form (with some changes to support Windows 7) and its code has been made available to the public, allowing anyone to install SLAG, customize it, and make it their own.
